描述 Hypromellose, also known as hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, enhances drug delivery by controlling the drug's release rate, thereby extending its therapeutic effects[1]. This polymer has been employed in sustained-release pharmaceutical formulations for many years. In the manufacturing of matrix tablets, hypromellose absorbs water upon contact, forming a viscous gel barrier around and within the tablet. Factors influencing drug release through hypromellose include the water diffusion rate into the dry polymer, the speed of gelation, the viscosity of the gel, and the rate at which the hypromellose gel erodes[2].
体内研究

In the treatment of dry eye, hypromellose 2% serves as an effective and economical supplementary therapy through punctal occlusion. Tests using fluorescein and rose bengal stains have demonstrated significant reductions in dry eye symptoms following treatment with hypromellose[3].

Moreover, hypromellose shows potential in nutritional and therapeutic applications, evidenced by its ability to enhance blood glucose metabolism and reduce oxidative stress in mice on a high-fat diet. Its antihyperglycemic and antioxidative properties may stem from its role in modulating activities of glucose-regulating enzymes in the liver and activating antioxidant enzymes in the liver and red blood cells. Thus, hypromellose could be beneficial as a biomaterial in developing functional foods or as a treatment for conditions induced by high-fat diets, such as hyperglycemia and oxidative stress[4].
