Ethylparaben 生物活性

描述

Ethylparaben (EP), a kind of parabens, has been widely used as a cosmetic and food preservative^[1]. Although EP, as a preservative, had been thought to be safe for humans, some studies showed that it has estrogenic effects and may cause some estrogenicity-related diseases^[1-2]. In vitro studies, EP could significantly stimulate the proliferation of MCF-7 cells at a higher concentration than 17beta-estradiol^[3]. In vivo studies, it was found that 0.02% EP could enhance the fertility of fruit flies, while at a higher concentration, more than 0.10%, EP could suppress the fruit flies' survivability^[1]. Besides these, EP also could increase the incidence of breast cancer in rats^[2].
