Phytic acid has a neuroprotective effect in MPTP-induced PD model, and the neuroprotection is correlated with its anti-inflammatory effect which may be associated with suppression of pathways that involved inNF-κB and p-ERK.

Phytic acid (IP6) is a natural antioxidant that is found in cereals, vegetables, nuts, and natural oils. Studies have shown that IP6 decreases the expression of tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α), halts the cell in G0/G1, activates caspase‐3, and p53 and inhibits the activation of mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs)[3]. The rice Khira and Mugai which had very low PA (Phytic Acid)(0.30, 0.36g/kg respectively) had higher GI（glycemic index） and α-amylase activity, while Nua Dhusara and the pigmented rice Manipuri black rice (MBR) which had high PA (2.13, 2.98g/kg respectively) showed low α-amylase activity and GI values[4].
