5-Hydroxytryptophan is a naturally occurring amino acid which acts as a chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin.

5-Hydroxytryptophan 生物活性

描述 5-Hydroxytryptophan(5-HTP) is a kind of natural amino acid and dietary supplement used as antidepressant, appetite inhibitor and sleep assistant. It is the precursor of neurotransmitter serotonin and the antagonist of reserpine[3].5-HTP treatment (10-3 - 10-2 M) significantly inhibited cell proliferation through blocking of the S-phase of the cell cycle and increasing apoptotic and necrotic cell death[4]. Moreover, 4h after 5-HTP administrations, the endogenous serotonin levels increased by fourfold (150mg/kg) in the plasma and brain associated with profound hyperthermia (+3.86±0.24°C, oxidative stress and NO upregulation[5].
