N-Acetyl-L-cysteine ethyl ester is a derivative of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) characterized by enhanced cell permeability. It generates NAC and cysteine upon metabolism. Moreover, it elevates circulating hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels, serving as an H2S producer. This compound holds promise as a substitute for NAC in mucolytic therapy and as a glutathione-related antioxidant ^[1].
