Dapoxetine hydrochloride functions by binding to serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine, and dopamine reuptake transporters, inhibiting their uptake. The potency of dapoxetine in inhibiting these neurotransmitters is greatest for 5-HT, followed by norepinephrine, and considerably less so for dopamine. Specifically, dapoxetine hydrochloride inhibits serotonin uptake by the 5-HT reuptake transporter with a highly potent value of 1.12 nM.
