Methenamine Hippurate 生物活性

描述 Methenamine hippurate (Hexamine hippurate) is recognized as an orally active urinary antiseptic with a broad antibacterial spectrum, making it effective against most common urinary tract pathogens[1].[2].
体外研究

Methenamine hippurate operates by releasing formaldehyde upon excretion in urine, showing considerable in vitro activity at a pH of 5 to 6 against pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Aerobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus vulgaris. Moreover, it displays extensive effectiveness at a pH of 7.4 against Klebsiella pneumoniae, Ps. aeruginosa, E. coli, Staph. aureus, and Streptococcus haemolytic. This efficacy surpasses that of methenamine alone, hippuric acid alone, or sulphadiazine[1].
