Ferric maltol 生物活性

描述

Ferric maltol is an orally active complex of a single iron ion (Fe3+). Ferric maltol has potential for the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia in inflammatory bowel disease^[1].Administration of Ferric maltol increases transferrin saturation and levels of serum iron, serum ferritin, reticulocyte haemoglobin and haemoglobin^[1].

Animal study

Animal studies have shown that iron not absorbed by Ferric maltol can be maintained at least in its chelated form throughout the small intestine, thereby minimising the risk of damage to the intestinal mucosa from free iron and potentially reducing local toxicity^[1].
