描述 Fumagillin is an active amebicide and anti-infective isolated from the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus[3]. Fumagillin, an inhibitor of methionine aminopeptidase-2, causes weight loss by reducing food intake, but with effects on weight that are superior to pair-feeding. Fumagillin engages weight loss-inducing behavioral and physiologic circuits distinct from those activated by simple caloric restriction[4]. Furthermore, fumagillin seems to protect the fungus against phagocytosis in vitro, and during in vivo studies using infection of immunosuppressed mice, a lower fungal burden in the lungs of mice infected with the ∆fmaA mutant[5]. Fumagillin, that is, stimulation of eryptosis, paralleled by Ca(2+) entry, ceramide formation, phosphatidylserine exposure and decrease of cell volume[6].
