描述 Proflavine hemisulfate is an Acridine derivative, which is a slow-acting disinfectant with bacteriostatic action against many Gram-positive bacteria but less effective against Gram-negative organisms[2]. Moreover, the bacteriostatic agent, proflavine, preferentially blocked a subset of inward rectifier K+ (Kir) channels[3]. Mutants resistant to 1. 0 mM PF (Proflavine) were 10 times more penicillin resistant than were the PF-susceptible, wild-type cells[4]. In comparing proflavine-light and placebo-light treatment, 0. 1% proflavine administration twice daily for 5 days had a significant effect in suppressing herpetic eye disease, but 0. 05% proflavine was less effective[5]. Proflavine hemisulfate, an acridine-derived fluorescent dye, can be used as a rapid stain for cytologic examination of biological specimens[6].
