描述 | Leptin is an adipocyte hormone important in appetite, energy homeostasis, neuroendocrine and haematopoietic function [1]. Leptin or leptin fragment administration results in a potent inhibition of ACTH and glucocorticoid secretion. Ob-Ra and Ob-Rb subtypes of leptin receptors are expressed in rat adrenocortical cells, and they interact differently in vivo and in vitro with native leptin and leptin fragments. Leptin (22-56), human is a fragment of native leptin which can interact with isoform of Ob-R. Leptin (22-56), human inhibited corticosterone production from rat adrenocortical-cell cultures suggesting that this region of the leptin molecule may be responsible for the direct inhibitory effect on secretion and growth of leptin on cultured rat adreno¬cortical cells [2]. Baseline leptin (22-56) levels were higher in haemodialysis (HD) patients vs. controls(7.14 +/- 7.04 ng/ml vs. 1.86 +/- 1.84, P < 0.02). Leptin(22-56) had a significant negative correlation with the erythropoietin to haematocrit ratio (T = -0.42, P < 0.01) suggesting Leptin(22-56) may favour haematopoiesis [1]. |
