描述 | D-Glucosamine sulfate (Glucosamine sulfate) is an amino sugar and a prominent precursor in the biochemical synthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids, is used as a dietary supplement. D-Glucosamine sulfate exhibits dose-dependent DPPH antioxidant activity[1]. Glucosamine sulfate's role in halting or reversing joint degeneration appears to be directly due to its ability to act as an essential substrate for, and to stimulate the biosynthesis of, the glycosaminoglycans and the hyaluronic acid backbone needed for the formation of the proteoglycans found in the structural matrix of joints[2]. Daily glucosamine-sulfate administration accelerates early phase of fracture repair in the rat tibia, with increased new bone formation and osteoblast lining histologically, but radiologic bone union is not favored on radiographs[3]. The Glucosamine Sulfate has a carryover effect like Disease modifying agents. Long-term treatment of Glucosamine Sulfate may reduce the dependence of NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) usage and delay the disease progression[4]. Glucosamine sulfate at the oral once-daily dosage of 1,500 mg is more effective than placebo in treating knee OA (knee osteoarthritis) symptoms[5]. |
