描述 | Sulbutiamine is a highly lipid soluble synthetic analogue of vitamin B1, used for the treatment of asthenia. Sulbutiamine is able to attenuate trophic factor deprivation induced apoptotic cell death in neuronal cells in culture. Sulbutiamine attenuates apoptotic cell death induced by serum deprivation and stimulates GSH ( glutathione) and GST (glutathione-S-transferase) activity in a dose dependent manner. Furthermore, sulbutiamine decreases the expression of cleaved caspase-3 and AIF[2]. Sulbutiamine shows neuroprotective effects on hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation. Exposure to OGD (oxygen-glucose deprivation) in the presence of sulbutiamine significantly increases neuronal viability and enhances electrophysiological properties such as excitatory synaptic transmissions and intrinsic neuronal membrane input resistance in a concentration-dependent manner[3]. Sulbutiamine is a lipophilic compound that crosses the blood-brain barrier more readily than thiamine and increases the levels of thiamine and thiamine phosphate esters in the brain. Sulbutiamin appears to be effective in treating fatigue in MS(multiple sclerosis); particularly in patients who were on some DMT(disease modifying treatment), but not on those who were not[4]. |
