描述 | Phthalylsulfathiazole is a kind of sulfonamides used as an antibacterial drug. In vitro experiments showed that phthalylsulphathiazole exerts a bacteriostatic effect against a number of intestinal organisms. A Flexner strain, a Sonne III organism, and a strain of B. coli were completely inhibited in semi-solid and fluid media containing the drug. While phthalylsulphathiazole did not appreciably influence the clinical course of Sonne III dysentery, it reduced considerably the number of cases bacteriologically positive in convalescence[2]. Phthalylsulfathiazole effects a more rapid reduction of Escherichia coli, vegetative forms of the clostridia and related organisms in the feces than does succinylsulfa- thiazole; that the feces become soft but that a diarrhea or semiliquid stool is not produced; that it is effective even in the presence of a watery diarrhea; that it is poorly absorbed from the intestinal tract; that little or no toxicity has been observed and that the dose in comparison with Succinylsulfathiazole is relatively small[3]. |
