描述 | Crocetin (Transcrocetin, trans-Crocetin) disodium, a metabolite derived from saffron's crocin apocarotenoids, is noted for its strong affinity to NMDA receptors, suggesting a potential mechanism behind saffron's CNS activity. in vitro studies utilizing Caco-2 cells have indicated that cellular viability remains unchanged after a 24-hour incubation with hydroalcoholic saffron extract (SE, 0.5-1 mg/mL) and crocin-1 (250-1000 µM). However, while Crocetin disodium at a concentration of 10 µM does not impact cell viability, higher concentrations (40-160 µM) significantly reduce it[1]. |
