描述 | Octenidine binds to negatively charged surfaces like bacterial cell envelopes and eukaryotic cell membranes probably inducing membrane disruption. Its main binding partners are salts of fatty acids glycerol phosphates, found in the cell membranes of mammalian and bacterial cells. Due to this strong and unspecific interaction with bacterial walls it has a broad antimicrobial spectrum against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), skin microflora and fungi. |
